Businesses and individuals: One month to update official euro exchange rates

The Bank of Spain's resolution publishes the official euro exchange rates for 16 January 2026 as set by the ECB, effective under Law 46/1998 (art. 36). These rates will serve as the official reference for all currency transactions, affecting calculations in euros and other currencies.

In 2 key points

  1. Official exchange rates are updated daily by the ECB (art. 36 Ley 46/1998)
  2. 1 euro = 1.1617 US dollars (and other currencies) (cambios del euro del 16 de enero de 2026)

How it affects those involved

Businesses, companies and individuals carrying out international transactions must update their foreign exchange pricing and cost calculations using the new official exchange rates. Public administrations and financial services that use these rates in their operations must also adjust their records. Financial advisers should inform their clients of the change to prevent errors in invoicing or payments.
