How the DGT's position has evolved
Current position
Agricultural tractors authorized to travel on public roads may use subsidized diesel if they are used in agriculture, livestock, or forestry. Forestry includes tasks such as felling, logging, pruning, clearing, and herbicide treatments to reduce fire risk. For other land vehicles, use is limited to those that do not have authorization to travel on public roads or lands or are not capable of obtaining it due to their configuration.
The DGT's position has shifted from a restrictive approach based on the lack of authorization to travel, to a criterion that allows use in registered tractors provided their use in agricultural, livestock, or forestry activities is proven. The scope of forestry activity has been specified to include fire prevention tasks. The evolution shows greater flexibility for agricultural tractors compared to other land vehicles.
