Transport mediation companies must register under heading 756.1 of the IAE

The correct classification of economic activities in the Business Activities Tax (IAE) is fundamental to avoid tax contingencies. Recently, the Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has specified the registration regime applicable to companies operating in the logistics and transport intermediation sector.

What the DGT has resolved

The administration has determined that the provision of logistics services as an organizer, coordinator, and transport intermediary, provided that no own means are used, entails the obligation to register under group 756, specifically under heading 756.1, corresponding to transport agencies and freight forwarders.

Likewise, the ruling establishes important nuances depending on the specialization of the activity:

• Air freight forwarders: If the entity performs IATA air freight forwarding services, it must extend its registration to heading 753.9.
• Storage of goods: Registration under group 756 does not grant powers for the storage of third-party goods that are not the object of the transport activity. In this case, an additional registration under group 754 is required, depending on the nature of the items managed.

If your company operates as an intermediary in the supply chain without owning its own fleet, your activity fits under heading 756.1. It is a common error to assume that a single registration covers all facets of logistics. If, in addition to mediation, you perform storage functions or act as an air freight forwarder, your IAE registration structure must be more complex to reflect the reality of your operations.
