Companies managing protected animals: must submit electronic self-declaration by April 16, 2026

The resolution establishes that from April 16, 2026, companies managing protected animals can submit their self-declaration of the CITES fee electronically, in accordance with the additional provision 5 of Royal Decree 986/2021. This change enables a more agile and digital submission, replacing the previously in-person procedure. Law 32/2007 establishes the general framework of the fee, but this resolution specifies the electronic procedure and its application date.

In 2 key points

  1. Telematic submission of self-declaration from 16 April 2026 (disposición adicional 5 del Real Decreto 986/2021)
  2. Application of the procedure established in Law 32/2007 for CITES fee (Ley 32/2007, de 7 de noviembre)

How it affects those involved

For businesses managing protected animals, administrative compliance is facilitated through a telematic submission, reducing costs and processing times. Workers and farm managers benefit from improved efficiency and accessibility. Public administrations reduce the need for in-person visits. Advisors must update their procedures to include the telematic channel and verify adherence to submission deadlines.
