Parents and caregivers: expansion of the benefit for caring for minors with cancer or serious illnesses

Royal Decree 957/2026 develops the regime for the economic benefit for caring for minors with cancer or other serious illnesses. The regulation expands coverage by including new pathologies such as autism spectrum disorder and Poirier-Bienvenu syndrome, and allows both caregivers to receive the benefit alternatively or simultaneously. Additionally, it establishes a new medical declaration model to certify treatments that, without requiring hospitalization, have a similar intensity (Annex II).

In 3 key points

  1. Inclusion of new pathologies: autism spectrum disorder and Poirier-Bienvenu syndrome (III)
  2. Possibility for both caregivers to receive the benefit alternatively or simultaneously (II)
  3. New medical declaration model to certify treatments of an intensity similar to hospital admission (Annex II) (III)

How it affects those involved

For affected families, access to the benefit is facilitated by the recognition of neurodevelopmental pathologies and by allowing both parents or caregivers to receive it (simultaneously or alternatively). Caregivers whose patients do not require hospitalisation but do require intensive treatment can prove their entitlement through the new medical declaration model (Annex II). Order TMS/103/2019 is repealed to centralise all management within this single text.
