Telecom operators: subsidies for 5G infrastructure deployment in very rural areas without 4G/5G coverage

This Order establishes the regulatory bases for granting aid intended for the provision of active equipment and auxiliary infrastructure for 5G services. The objective is to provide connectivity to very rural areas where there is currently no 4G or 5G mobile network signal from any operator. The aid is part of the Multiregional Program Spain FEDER 2021-2027 and aims to reduce the territorial digital divide.

How it affects those involved

Telecom operators gain access to FEDER funding to expand 5G infrastructure in low-commercial-revenue but high-social-interest areas, benefiting rural administrations and society by reducing the digital divide and improving economic productivity. Deployment must ensure capacity for high-capacity, low-latency 5G applications.
