This Order establishes the regulatory bases for granting aid intended for the provision of active equipment and auxiliary infrastructure for 5G services. The objective is to provide connectivity to very rural areas where there is currently no 4G or 5G mobile network signal from any operator. The aid is part of the Multiregional Program Spain FEDER 2021-2027 and aims to reduce the territorial digital divide.
For telecommunications operators, the regulation provides a funding route through ERDF funds to expand infrastructure in areas with low commercial profitability but high social interest. Local authorities and society in highly rural areas benefit from the reduction of the digital divide and improved economic productivity. Deployment must guarantee the capacity required for the ultra-high capacity and low-latency applications characteristic of 5G technology.
