Hospitality businesses: direct grants for equipment renewal and energy cost reduction

Royal Decree 638/2026 establishes a shock plan through the direct granting of aid for hospitality companies to renew their equipment. The objective is to mitigate the impact of high energy costs and facilitate the green transition, especially in kitchen, climate control, lighting, ACS, and refrigeration equipment. The regulation responds to the need to improve the operational efficiency of a sector mostly composed of micro-businesses and the self-employed.

How it affects those involved

Micro-enterprises and self-employed individuals—representing over 96% of the sector—can modernise infrastructure without jeopardising liquidity amid volatile energy costs. Hospitality businesses can reduce consumption in high-cost areas such as kitchens, heating and refrigeration. The sector benefits from capital injection for energy efficiency, preventing short-term debt from energy expenses.
