Rural municipalities: 30 days to derogate article 59.1.b) of Regulation 64/2014

The Decree-Law 6/2026 derogates article 59.1.b) of Regulation 64/2014, which required procurement in rural municipalities, within 30 days (art. 59.1.b)). This change removes an administrative barrier for procurement in rural areas without altering other procurement regimes. The derogation applies to all rural municipalities affected by the previous regulation.

In 2 key points

  1. Withdraws article 59.1.b) of Regulation 64/2014 for rural municipalities (art. 59.1.b))
  2. 30-day deadline for withdrawal of the rule (art. 59.1.b))

How it affects those involved

Municipalities in rural areas are exempt from the procurement requirement in article 59.1.b) of Regulation 64/2014. Public and private entities managing contracts in these areas can proceed without additional restrictions. A 30-day deadline requires municipalities to update their administrative procedures before expiry.
