Veterinary firms to adopt new clinical assistance certificate by March

Royal Decree 489/2026 introduces a new professional certificate in clinical assistance at veterinary centres, replacing the one on earth-moving machinery operations. The updated curriculum and degree offerings for levels B and A are defined in Annex V of Royal Decree 404/2025, revised in line with Law 3/2022 and Royal Decree 659/2023 (art. 2).

In 3 key points

  1. A professional certification in clinical assistance is established for veterinary centres (art. 1)
  2. Annex V of Royal Decree 404/2025 is amended in accordance with Royal Decree 659/2023 and Law 3/2022 (art. 3)
  3. A three-month period to update degree A and B offerings (disp. transitoria 2)

How it affects those involved

Veterinary training centres offering clinical assistance must revise their curricula and degree A and B offerings in line with the new certification (art. 2). Agricultural sector companies providing professional training must update their programmes within the next three months. The amendment does not apply to centres not offering animal training.
