Academic excellence grants are exempt from Personal Income Tax (IRPF)

A student inquired whether a €2,100 academic excellence grant from an Autonomous Community was exempt from Personal Income Tax (IRPF) and whether they were required to file a tax return. The Directorate General for Taxes (DGT) ruled that the grant is exempt and that the taxpayer is not obliged to file a return as the amount does not exceed the legal thresholds.

The question raised

The DGT's ruling
