No obligation to file Income Tax return if total employment income is below €22,000 and second payer income is below €1,500

An individual receiving a €15,000 pension and a €1,500 pension scheme redemption asks whether they must file a tax return. The Tax Agency (DGT) determines that there is no obligation to file as the legal thresholds have not been exceeded.

The question raised

In the event that a pension plan is redeemed in the form of an annual annuity for an amount of 1,500 euros, whether there is an obligation to file the income tax return corresponding to the 2023 tax year.

The DGT's ruling

There is no obligation to file an Income Tax return when total employment income does not exceed 22,000 euros per year and the amounts received from a second payer do not exceed 1,500 euros per year. In this case, the pension and the redemption of the pension plan are considered full employment income.
