60% tax deduction available for energy efficiency improvements in single-family homes

A taxpayer has enquired about the requirements for claiming tax relief on the installation of photovoltaic panels in a single-family home. The Directorate General for Taxes (DGT) clarifies that if the works reduce non-renewable primary energy consumption by 30% or improve the energy rating to 'A' or 'B', the deduction under the 50th Additional Provision of the Personal Income Tax Act (LIRPF) may be applied.

The question raised

Question posed: Requirements for applying the deduction provided for in the 50th Additional Provision of the Personal Income Tax Law (LIRPF) for works involving the installation of photovoltaic panels in a single-family primary residence.

The DGT's ruling

For the 60% deduction, the works must be carried out between the entry into force of Royal Decree-Law 19/2021 and December 31, 2023. A reduction in non-renewable primary energy consumption of at least 30% or the achievement of an 'A' or 'B' energy rating must be certified by an energy efficiency certificate. The maximum annual base is 5,000 euros, with a cumulative limit of 15,000 euros, and any subsidies received must be deducted.
