Tax reporting obligations in Spain depend on tax residence and employment income thresholds

A consultant acting as a director in Spain with a salary in Chile asks whether they must declare their worldwide income in Spain. The DGT clarifies that this depends on their tax residence and whether their taxable employment income exceeds the legal thresholds.

The DGT's ruling

Si es residente fiscal en España, tributa por su renta mundial, aunque el salario de Chile puede tener tributación compartida o estar exento bajo el artículo 7 p) de la LIRPF. Para determinar la obligación de declarar, se deben sumar todos los rendimientos del trabajo sujetos y no exentos. Si es no residente, solo tributará en España por las rentas de fuente española.
