Oceanic, deep-sea and longline vessels (<100 t): 10,000 kg/vessel/day north mackerel catch limit for 2026

The General Secretariat of Fisheries has established the management measures for the mackerel fishery (stock MAC/2CX14-) for the oceanic, deep-sea, and longline fleet of vessels under 100 gross tonnes operating in the NEAFC area. An adapted quota of 1,275,753 kg has been set for 2026 for this group of vessels (First). To prevent rapid quota depletion due to the migratory nature of the species, a daily catch limit of 10,000 kg per vessel is imposed (Second).

In 3 key points

  1. North mackerel (MAC/2CX14-) catch limit of 10,000 kg/vessel/day in 2026, Second. (Segundo)
  2. Reduction of the limit to 100 kg/vessel/day from 1 January 2027, Third. (Tercero)
  3. In force from the day following its publication, Fourth. (Cuarto)

How it affects those involved

For owners and crews of vessels authorised under Order APM/920/2017, the regulation imposes a daily operational catch restriction to prevent exceeding the quota (Second). In 2026, the limit is 10,000 kg/vessel/day, but this will be drastically reduced to 100 kg/vessel/day from 1 January 2027 (Third). The administration reserves the right to modify these limits based on the evolution of the fishery (Third).
