Passengers on flights and sea links from Italy: extension of border controls in Spain until 7 October 2026

The temporary reintroduction of border controls at Spanish internal air and sea borders for passengers arriving from the Italian Republic has been extended (Art. 1). This measure is due to persistent urgent reasons and serious threats to public order and internal security. The extension is established within the framework of the Schengen Borders Code (Art. 1).

How it affects those involved

No automatic extensions are permitted, meaning any further extension will require a new reasoned decision (Art. 2.4).
