The Catalan Wine Institute has favourably resolved the standard amendment to the product specifications of the Penedès Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) (resolution of 10 August 2026). This decision has been made in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 and Royal Decree 189/2026, allowing the regional authority to resolve the matter directly without the need for a national opposition procedure (Art. 16 RD 189/2026). The new amended specifications are now available for public consultation.
For producers and the Penedès PDO Management Body, this resolution validates the proposed technical changes to their product specifications, which will be forwarded to the Ministry of Agriculture for communication to the European Commission (Art. 4). Affected parties must consult the full new text to ensure compliance with the new production and labelling regulations. There is a possibility to lodge an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) against this resolution (Art. 76 Law 26/2010).
