Local authorities: €40 million allocated for gender-based violence programmes in 2026

The State Secretariat for Equality has resolved the distribution of €40,000,000.00 intended to develop the capacities of local authorities within the framework of the State Pact against Gender-based Violence for the 2026 financial year. The allocation is calculated based on the number of local authorities, their population (according to INE figures as of 1 January 2025), and the inclusion of municipalities in the VioGén system and the ATENPRO service (as of 1 June 2026), in accordance with Royal Decree 1023/2020.

In 2 key points

  1. Total budget allocation of €40,000,000.00 for the 2026 financial year (texto fuente)
  2. Distribution criteria based on population (INE 01/01/2025) and municipalities in VioGén/ATENPRO (01/06/2026) (texto fuente)

How it affects those involved

For town councils and local authorities, this resolution determines the amount of current transfers they will receive to fund gender-based violence eradication programmes. The distribution is not uniform, as it depends on demographic criteria and the presence of victims using specific services such as VioGén or ATENPRO. Municipalities in the Basque Country are governed by their own specific funding regime.
